The GLOBE Communications Manager manages world-wide communication for the GLOBE Program. Reporting to the Director of the GLOBE Program Office, the Communications Manager will set and guide the strategy for all GLOBE communications and will disseminate consistent public relations messages to promote GLOBE’s mission and brand. The Communications Manager will strive to ensure that the GLOBE Program is viewed as the pre-eminent international program for environmental science and education throughout the world. This position will work closely with other managers within the organization and will manage a team of three.
Duties will include the oversight, planning, organizing, delivery and evaluation of all external communications relating to the GLOBE Program, targeting relevant media in science and education on a local, national and international basis. The Communications Manager will do the dame for all internal communications to GLOBE partners in 111 countries. The work involves line managing, directing, supervising, and developing the Communication Team of 3 staff, as well as attendance at regular Managers Meetings, and production of monthly team performance reports.
A Bachelor’s Degree in communication or a related discipline, and a minimum of five years’ experience as a communications manager, specialist or director of a communications team are required. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered. The successful candidate will have demonstrated effective management skills in leadership, planning, budgeting, evaluation and effective communication; experience managing and motivating professional level staff; leadership experience in all communication channels, including print, web, and new media; a demonstrated knowledge of communication tools and their practical implementation; knowledge of communication techniques and styles for education, science and/or international audiences; knowledge of international communications issues relating to difference cultures and work styles; skill in writing, editing, and proofreading news and featured articles for a variety of audiences; and the ability and willingness to travel both nationally and internationally.
